How many questions are on the exam and how long do I have to complete it?

You have 2 options for the exam; the number of questions and time to complete is different for each:

Option 1. NASM Personal Trainer Certificate (Non-Proctored Exam)
This non-proctored, open-book exam has 100 exam questions with a passing grade of 70%. This exam is administered online only. You will have 3 hours to complete the exam.

Option 2. NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NCCA Accredited Certification Exam)
For this proctored, closed-book exam, there are a total of 120 exam questions. You must pass with a scaled score of 70 or better. There is a 2 hour time limit.

Is there a practice exam?

Yes, a 100-question practice final exam with unlimited attempts is included. There are also 124 knowledge checks (mini-quizzes), 23 chapter quizzes, and 6 section reviews to help you master the course content.

Can I earn CEUs from courses I completed through college?

NASM offers college course CEU credits on a per unit basis. For example, a semester long Anatomy course worth 3 units would provide 0.3 NASM CEUs (up to a maximum of 1.5 CEUs). Please provide a copy of an official transcript with your recertification/renewal application submission.

What CPR/AED providers does NASM accept?

NASM offers an online CPR/AED certification. However, you can meet the required CPR/AED certifications through the following organizations: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, St. John Ambulance, Emergency Care & Safety Institute or Emergency Medical Technician.
